Major Renovation of Low Income Housing Community Includes Solar Retrofit

Sacramento, CA --  December 20, 2014 --   General contractor and building restoration specialist, SD Deacon Corporation of Sacramento, announced today the selection of NW Photon Energy of Portland, Oregon, as solar project developer on the $23 million renovation of the Washington Plaza Apartments located in the historic Alkali-Mansion flats neighborhood.  S D Deacon Corporation has been retained by BRIDGE Housing who, in partnership with the Sacramento Housing Authority Repositioning Program, Inc. (SHARP), will be rehabilitating the 1971 property, a public housing community of 75 one-bedroom apartments for low income seniors.

The substantial rehab includes retrofitting the building exterior, replacing most major systems, enlarging community spaces and the greening of the building through the addition of a photovoltaic (PV) solar system as well as a solar water heating system.  NW Photon Energy will be responsible for the design and build of the 124 panel solar system and the solar thermal collection and hot water heating system.  The project is expected to be completed by March 2015.
