Historic St. John’s Complex Undergoes Solar Addition

Portland, OR – September 19, 2016 --  NW Photon Energy (NWPE), a leading provider, designer and installer of turnkey commercial solar systems in the Pacific Northwest, today announced the installation of a 237kW solar array for the historic Cathedral Park Place.  Located in Portland’s St. John’s neighborhood, Cathedral Park Place is a 280,000 square foot warehouse/office complex originally built in 1904 to house Portland Woolen Mills.  Recent tenants have included Northern Specialties, Columbia Sportswear and Occidental Brewing.
Retrofitting one of the fifteen buildings in the conglomerated structure with solar presented the unique challenge of maintaining the roof integrity of a 100+-year old building while installing the solar array. The system was installed using a GameChanger hybrid, ultra-low ballasted, non-penetrating racking system.  This system met the rigid requirements posed by local jurisdiction and presented a structurally sound solution for the client.
